EDU 653 - Week 4 (Post 1) - Windows Themes

As my second post for this week promises to be deep and serious given the subject matter, I thought this would be a good opportunity for me to lighten things up a little. The RSS post I've decided to talk about here is one about Windows themes. Too many times I've gone into classrooms and seen the standard Windows splash wallpaper, a school logo or other boring wallpaper on the desktop. I'm not advocating that we let the students have their own desktop wallpaper (as I know first hand the chaos that would ensue) but as a user interface freak I LOVE awesome desktop wallpapers. A good wallpaper changes the entire way we look at our computer, makes it look amazing or in my case lets me day dream a little while I'm staring at it while I'm "working". Windows (7) makes it super easy to change the desktop wallpaper on a timer and personally I'd love to see this in more classrooms. At the very least I think it makes it look better.

Relating back to the article, this blog post has some pretty fancy wallpapers to download if you're looking to spice up your desktop.

  1. Great post Ian. It is nice to 'lighten it up' a little with the blog posts. Your post hit home with me in regards to letting students use their own wallpaper. This past year I allowed students to change the wallpaper on the classroom laptops that we have at our virtual center. I quickly came to change that policy as some of the wallpaper that a certain student was using was a little too 'psychedelic' or down-right inappropriate. Oh you live and you learn I guess! Also, I liked the link you provided. I think it's about time I spice my wallpaper up and this site lead me to several different options. Great post!

  2. Ian,
I'm so glad you decided to "lighten things up a little." After reading your post I realized that I am really missing out on the opportunity to jazz up my computer! I was thinking this would be a great way to get some writing out of my students. Every week I could change the wallpaper on my computer and they could free write about it.

  3. Ian,

I love this post! The first thing on my to-do list each school year is change my background on my home screen for my school computer. I change it to a picture or collage of pictures of my son and family! It is amazing how each time I see it, it brightens up my day just a little bit! So much more so than the typical Windows wallpaper!

    Thanks for the fun post!
